Court of Awards ceremonies are special events designed to celebrate the achievements of Girl Scouts and recognize their hard work and dedication. These ceremonies typically take place periodically during the troop year and provide an opportunity to present scouts with the badges, awards, and recognitions they have earned through their activities, projects, and skill-building efforts.

The ceremony often includes a formal presentation of awards, with leaders or special guests distributing badges and pins to each scout. Leaders may share brief descriptions of the accomplishments behind the awards, highlighting the scouts’ growth, teamwork, and contributions. This allows families, friends, and troop members to gain insight into the activities and efforts that led to these achievements.
Symbolic elements, such as lighting candles or reciting the Girl Scout Promise and Law, are sometimes incorporated to reinforce the values of scouting. Leaders may also offer words of encouragement and reflect on the scouts’ journey so far, inspiring them to continue pursuing new challenges.
Court of Awards ceremonies are not only about recognition but also about fostering a sense of community and pride. They create a meaningful moment for scouts to reflect on their accomplishments, celebrate their progress, and share their successes with others in a supportive and uplifting environment. The event often concludes with light refreshments, songs, or a Friendship Circle to further emphasize the camaraderie and joy of the scouting experience.
Ways to Present Awards
There are just as many ways to display the awards being presented as there are ceremonies to give them to scouts. Check out the Court of Awards – Ways to Present page for a list of ideas.
