Gift Artwork

Activity Description: Scouts prepare one of their art pieces as a gift and create wrapping and a card to go with it.

  • Fulfills Step 5 of GSUSA Brownie Art and Design badge requirements.
  • Fulfills Step 5 of GSUSA Junior Art and Design badge requirements.

Info Needed: Scouts should understand that sharing art helps others learn about their ideas and creativity.


Items Needed:

  • Scouts’ completed artwork
  • Paper, pencils, scissors, and tape
  • Drawing and coloring supplies (markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc.)
  • (Optional) Envelopes
  • (Optional) DIY wrapping supplies: newspaper, craft paper, tissue paper, gift bags, boxes, string, or ribbon
  • (Optional) Materials to decorate wrapping or make a gift card
  • (Optional) Computer and printer for digital cards or designs

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15–30 min):

  1. Choose a gift artwork (2–3 min)
    • Each scout picks one piece of their art to give as a gift.
    • They decide who they want to give it to (family member, friend, teacher, etc.).
  2. Wrap the gift (10–12 min)
    • Scouts design and decorate their own wrapping using the materials available.
    • They can make a bag, a box, or simply wrap the artwork in paper.
    • Remind them to think about how to protect the art and make it feel special.
  3. Make a gift card (5–7 min)
    • Scouts create a simple card to go with the gift.
    • They can write or draw what the art is about, why they picked it, or how they made it.
  4. (Optional) Add a personal touch (5–8 min)
    • Scouts can add a handmade tag or frame to the gift.
    • If time allows, they can design a matching sticker, bookmark, or poster using their artwork.
