GGUK – Guides

Ages 10-14. Unlike GSUSA, which call an organized group of scouts a Troop, Guides are typically called a Company, although sometimes they are still called Packs like they were in Brownies.

All levels in GirlGuiding UK can earn Skills Builders (Staged badges). They are intended to earn in order one through six stages, based off the scout’s ability and interest. Guides could earn stage one and they might not do stage two until Rangers. A Ranger might just skip the earlier stages and start on Stage 4, 5, or 6. Click here to learn more about Skills Builders.

All levels in GirlGuiding UK can earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold for their level.

  • Bronze requires 2 Theme Awards in their current level.
  • Silver requires 4 Theme Awards in their current level.
  • Gold requires all 6 Theme Awards in their current level.

Theme Awards are available for every level, but have slightly different requirements for each level. Click here for details on Theme Awards. Guides require:

  • Choose one of three required Interest Badges
  • Choose one of two required Staged badge series (called Skills Builders) and complete one of the six stages.
  • Complete 4 hours of UMA activities as a troop (cannot be done individually). (UMA activities are available on separate Cards from Girlguiding UK, sometimes for purchase but they often have some available for free download.)

Guides Interest Badges

Each Interest badge is an option to earning a specific Theme Award. Which it is connected to is listed after the Interest badge name.

Adventure badges no longer have any requirements. Most Girlguiding groups do an activity that matches the theme of the Adventure badge to earn them, similar to GSUSA Fun Patches. A scout could earn the same adventure badge in each level, but must do an activity in the level they belong to each time.
