- Fulfills Step 3 of GSUSA Daisy Cybersecurity Safeguards badge requirements.
- Fulfills Step 4 of GSUSA Brownie Cybersecurity Safeguards badge requirements.
- Fulfills Step 5 of GSUSA Junior Cybersecurity Basics badge requirements.
Info Needed for the Brownie & Junior Cybersecurity Safeguards badge requirements: “In real life, you wouldn’t talk to a stranger because you don’t know anything about them. They could easily be lying. People can lie or pretend to be someone else online, too. It’s pretty easy to not be truthful about who you are, especially online.” – GSUSA VTK Brownie Cybersecurity Safeguards.
Items Needed
- Index cards (one for each scout)
- Pens
- Timer
Instructions
- Each scout writes their name at the top of an index card and one fact about themselves that nobody in the room knows.
- Collect all the cards and shuffle them.
- Draw the top card from the shuffled pile and call three scouts to the front, including the scout who wrote the card.
- Each of the three scouts gets 10 seconds to convince the troop that they wrote what’s on the card. Use a timer to keep track.
- After all three scouts finish, the troop votes on which scout they believe is telling the truth.
- Pick the next card and repeat the process until the time is up or all cards have been used.
Variations
- Speed Round: Instead of giving 10 seconds, scouts only get 5 seconds to explain, making it a fast-paced challenge. Encourage quick thinking while maintaining the fun.
- Team Mode: Divide scouts into teams. Each team guesses which scout wrote the card after hearing all three explanations. The team with the most correct guesses wins.
- Guess and Pass: After hearing the explanations, the scout holding the card gets one guess to identify the true writer. If they guess correctly, they keep the card; if not, the card passes to another scout. The scout with the most cards at the end wins.
- Creative Clues: Instead of writing something about themselves, scouts draw a picture or symbol to represent their fact. Others interpret the drawing during the explanations.
- Thematic Challenge: Choose a specific theme for the facts, such as favorite animals, hobbies, or dream destinations. This helps scouts focus their answers and adds a fresh twist.
- Mystery Bonus: Add an extra “mystery card” with a fun, fictional fact. Scouts vote to figure out if the fact is real or fake.
