Games – Points of Contact

Game also known as Four Pointers

Items Needed

  • A marked space with two lines, labeled “A” and “B,” approximately 10 meters (about 33 feet) apart
  • Open area large enough for safe movement

Instructions

  1. Divide scouts into groups of 6–7. Each group must move from Line A to Line B while only maintaining four points of contact with the ground at any given time. Points of contact include hands, feet, knees, etc.
  2. Groups must follow these rules:
    • Only one scout may move across at a time.
    • Scouts must assist each other and remain in physical contact (e.g., holding hands or shoulders) while moving.
    • The group must complete the task within a set time (10–15 minutes is a good starting point).
    • Groups may strategize together before time starts.
  3. The first team to accomplish the goal should be congratulated, but all groups should be encouraged to do so in the time frame given.

Variations

  • Distance Adjustments: Increase or decrease the distance between Lines A and B to make the challenge easier or harder.
  • Points of Contact: For younger scouts, allow up to 6 points of contact for an easier task. For older scouts, you can reduce it to 3 points of contact for a more difficult challenge.
  • Group Size: Use smaller groups (e.g., 4–5 scouts) for an easier activity or larger groups (e.g., 8–10 scouts) for more teamwork and complexity.
  • Wider Gap: Increase the distance between scouts while crossing to make collaboration more difficult.
  • Timed Race: Turn the activity into a competition by timing how quickly each group can complete the task.
  • Silent Challenge: Add an extra layer of difficulty by requiring scouts to complete the task without speaking.
