Games – Line-Up

Items Needed

  • None (just the group and their creativity!)

Instructions

  1. Start with a simple task: Have scouts line up in order by their height. This should be straightforward and allow them to warm up.
  2. Next, challenge scouts to line up in order by a different characteristic, such as:
    • Their birthdates (month and day only, not year).
    • Their shoe sizes.
  3. During the second challenge, scouts must do so without talking or using their mouths in any way to communicate. Pens, pencils, diaries, phones, or any other tools are not allowed. Scouts must rely on non-verbal communication and creativity.
  4. Once scouts complete the lineup, gather everyone to discuss:
    • How they worked together as a team.
    • The strategies they used to communicate without speaking.
    • The role of communication and teamwork in achieving shared goals.

Variations

  • Blindfold Challenge: Blindfold scouts or have them close their eyes during the activity for an added layer of difficulty.
  • Different Sorting Challenges: Ask scouts to line up based on alternative characteristics, such as:
    • First letter of their first name.
    • Number of siblings they have.
    • The month of their birthdays.
    • Favorite colors (indicated non-verbally).
  • Team Competition: Divide scouts into smaller groups and challenge them to complete the task faster than the other teams.
  • Time-Limit Challenge: Set a timer and see how quickly they can complete the task.
