Items Needed:
- A large, open space for the group to carry out the activity safely. Perform the activity on a soft surface, such as grass or gym mats, to reduce risk.
- Clear instructions and adult supervision throughout the activity
Safety Guidelines:
- This activity requires close adult supervision at all times. Ensure scouts are fully attentive and follow instructions.
- Limit participation to scouts of appropriate age (10 years or older) who can understand and handle the physical and safety requirements.
- If any scout feels uncomfortable or unsure, allow them to opt out of volunteering or participating.

Instructions:
- Select one scout as a volunteer to lie on their back on a flat surface. Ensure the scout feels comfortable, with the option to close their eyes if they wish.
- Assign another scout as the “captain,” who will stand at the volunteer’s head and guide the group through the activity.
- The remaining scouts gather around the volunteer, placing their hands underneath the volunteer scout lying down. Ensure the volunteer’s head remains higher than their feet at all times. Remind the volunteer to remain stiff as a board throughout the activity and instruct the group to take the process seriously, maintaining silence to ensure safety and focus.
- The captain will count to three, signaling the group to lift the volunteer to waist height. (NOTE: For younger scouts or less experienced groups, only lift the volunteer to waist height. Skip shoulder or overhead lifting for safety.)
- The captain counts to three again, and the group carefully lifts the volunteer to shoulder height.
- The captain counts to three once more, guiding the group to lift the volunteer over their heads.
- Finally, the captain counts to three again, and the group carefully rocks the volunteer forward and backward as they lower them to the ground, like a falling feather.
Variations
- Team Formation: Divide scouts into smaller groups and assign volunteers for each group to encourage teamwork and practice.
- Adjust Group Size: Larger groups can provide more hands for lifting and make the activity easier, while smaller groups require careful coordination.
