Games – Keep It Up

Items Needed

  • One volleyball or a similar-sized ball for each team (light, soft balls work best for younger scouts)
  • Open space large enough for multiple teams to form circles and play safely
  • Requires multiple teams of 10-12 scouts each

Instructions

  1. Divide scouts into two or more teams, each consisting of 10–12 scouts. Each team forms a circle, standing at an arm’s length apart.
  2. Each team gets a ball. The goal is to keep the ball in the air as long as possible by hitting it with their hands (no catching allowed).
  3. Start the round and have teams begin keeping their ball in the air. Scouts can hit the ball in any direction within their circle.
  4. When one team’s ball falls to the ground, they are eliminated for that round. The last team with their ball still in the air earns a point for that round.
  5. Continue for as many rounds as you’d like. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Variations

  • Scoring by Order: Scouts must hit the ball in a specific order (e.g., clockwise around the circle). If they break the sequence, they are out for that round.
  • Challenge Timer: Add a timer and give points to teams based on how long they can keep their ball in the air.
  • Ball Size Variation: Use balls of different sizes (e.g., beach balls or smaller foam balls) to make the game more challenging or age-appropriate.
  • Smaller or Larger Teams: Adjust team sizes depending on the group. Smaller teams may make the game faster-paced, while larger teams require more coordination.
  • Multiple Balls: Add an extra ball to each circle to increase difficulty and teamwork.
