Games – I Spy

Items Needed

  • None (just the group and their creativity!)

Instructions

  • One Scout begins as the “Spy” and looks around the environment to choose an object everyone can see.
  • The Spy gives a clue by saying, “I spy with my little eye something [insert color or descriptive feature, e.g., red, round, small, etc.].”
  • The other Scouts take turns guessing what the Spy is describing.
  • The game continues until someone guesses the object correctly.
  • The Scout who guesses correctly becomes the next Spy.

Variations

  • Alphabet Spy: Choose objects that start with a specific letter (e.g., “I spy something that starts with ‘B’”).
  • Color Spy: Players can only choose objects based on their color (e.g., “I spy something blue”).
  • Indoor Spy: Adapt for indoor environments like classrooms or homes to find everyday items.
  • Natural and Manmade I Spy: While walking outdoors, look for natural and manmade objects. One Scout starts by saying, “I spy something natural (or manmade).” Others take turns asking yes-or-no questions and guessing. The correct guesser chooses the next object.
  • Shape Spy: Choose objects based on their shape (e.g., “I spy something round”).
  • Sounds Spy: Spy objects based on sounds they make, like buzzing or clinking (e.g., “I spy something that goes click”).
  • Texture Spy: Focus on textures like smooth, rough, or soft (e.g., “I spy something bumpy”).
  • Theme Spy: Use a specific theme, like animals, vehicles, or plants (e.g., “I spy an animal”).
  • Time Limit Spy: Set a timer, and players must guess before it runs out to add excitement.
