Games – Duck, Duck, Goose

Items Needed

  • None (unless playing “Duck, Duck, Splash,” which requires a cup of water or similar item)

Instructions

  1. Scouts sit in a circle.
  2. One Scout is chosen (sometimes called the “fox”).
  3. The “fox” walks around the outside of the circle, gently tapping others on the head and saying either “Duck” or “Goose.”
  4. When the “fox” taps someone and says “Goose,” they begin running around the circle.
  5. The tapped Scout (the “Goose”) chases the “fox” around the circle.
    • If the “fox” makes it back to the spot the “goose” had, and sits down before being tagged, the “goose” becomes the new “fox” and continues the game.
    • If the “fox” is tagged before sitting down, they go into the “Stink Pot” or “Cooking Pot” in the middle of the circle until another Scout gets tagged and takes their place.
  6. Play enough rounds all scouts have a turn as the “fox”.

Variations

  • Cooking Pot Re-Entry: Scouts in the cooking pot stay there until there are five Scouts in the pot. Then, they can rejoin the game.
  • Duck, Duck, Splash: The fox holds a cup of water and flicks a small amount on each Scout while saying “Duck.” When the fox picks a “Goose,” they pour the remaining water on their head and say “Splash!” (Provide options for Scouts to opt out if they don’t want to get wet.)
