Games – Cyber Safety Action

Fulfills Step 3 of GSUSA Brownie Cybersecurity Basics badge requirements.

Items Needed

  • None (just the group and their creativity!)

Instructions

  1. Explain that each rule has a matching movement. Scouts will listen to the rule and then act it out:
    • Rule 1: Don’t talk to strangers. Scouts pretend to “walk away” by taking big exaggerated steps and turning their back.
    • Rule 2: Stop and think about your actions. Scouts freeze in place, strike a “thinking pose,” and tap their chin.
    • Rule 3: Don’t believe everything you see or hear. Scouts shield their eyes with their hand, as if they’re carefully examining something.
  2. Call out the rules one at a time and have scouts practice the corresponding movements.
  3. Scouts spread out around the room. Call out one rule and watch as they quickly do the matching movement.
  4. Speed it up by calling out rules faster or in random order to challenge their reaction times.
  5. After a few rounds, pause and discuss each rule. Reinforce why it’s important to follow these safety rules online.

See Online Safety for more details on safety rules.

Variations

Team Relay Race: Divide scouts into teams and have them run to a designated spot, perform the correct movement for a rule, and race back to tag the next teammate.
