Games – Cyber Jump

Fulfills Step 5 of GSUSA Brownie Cybersecurity Safeguards badge requirements.

Items Needed

  • (Optional) Painter’s tape (to make a straight line on the floor)
  • List of Safety Rules with true/false answers.

Instructions

  1. (Optional) Use painter’s tape to divide the room with a straight line in the middle.
  2. Scouts stand side by side along a line.
  3. Explain the game: Scouts will decide if online safety rules are true or false by jumping forward for true and backward for false. If they aren’t sure, they can stay on the line one time for a free pass.
  4. Do a practice round to ensure everyone understands.
    • Example: “You are all scouts” (True, jump forward).
    • Example: “A superhero is the same as an evil villain” (False, jump backward).
  5. Play the real game:
    • Read online safety rules aloud.
    • Scouts jump forward for true or backward for false. If a scout answers incorrectly, they are out of the game.
    • Everyone returns to the line before the next rule is read.
  6. Once the game ends, discuss which rules were the easiest or hardest to figure out and share a favorite rule together.

Note: If space is limited, divide scouts into smaller groups or play outdoors. For scouts with limited mobility, they can call out “True” or “False” instead of jumping.
