Games – Centipede Ski Challenge

Items Needed

  • Two sturdy wooden planks per group (long enough for all scouts in the group to stand on).
  • Ropes securely attached to each plank for scouts to hold onto (two ropes per plank, evenly spaced).
  • An open outdoor space for the activity.

Instructions

  1. Divide scouts into small groups of equal size. Provide each group with two wooden planks and ensure the ropes are evenly spaced for scouts to hold onto.
  2. Ask the scouts to stand on the planks with one foot on each plank, holding the ropes for balance. The goal is for each group to coordinate their movements and “ski” together across a designated distance without stepping off the planks.
  3. Allow time for practice, encouraging scouts to communicate and find a rhythm as a team.
  4. (Optional) Make it a friendly competition by timing groups or setting a finish line. Reflect on how trust, teamwork, and communication helped during the activity.
