Games – Button Button

Items Needed

  • A small button or similar object.
  • A group of Scouts seated in a circle.

Instructions

  • Scouts sit in a circle, and one Scout is designated as “It.”
  • “It” holds the button and walks around the circle while all Scouts hold their right hands out, palm up.
  • “It” taps each Scout’s palm, and everyone quickly closes their hand after being tapped.
  • At some point, “It” secretly drops the button into one Scout’s hand.
  • Once “It” returns to their place, the group chants, “Button, Button, Who’s Got the Button?”
  • Starting with the Scout to the right of “It,” Scouts take turns guessing who has the button by saying, “(Name) has the button!”
  • When the Scout with the button is correctly identified, that round ends.
  • The Scout who had the button becomes the next “It,” and the game continues.

Variations

  • Guessing Based on Clues: Instead of calling out names, Scouts ask yes-or-no questions about who might have the button (e.g., “Is the button with someone wearing red?”).
  • Circle Chase Button: After the button is secretly dropped, Scouts stand up and walk around the circle while guessing who has the button.
  • Double Button Round: Use two buttons instead of one, and Scouts must guess who has each button.
  • Silent Button Pass: Scouts remain silent throughout the game, making the drop even harder to detect and raising the tension.
  • Hidden Button Game: The button isn’t placed in anyone’s hand—instead, it’s hidden somewhere in the space for Scouts to guess its location.
