Game Sampler Hour

Fulfills Step 5 of GSUSA Cabin Camper badge requirements.

Items Needed:

  • None required
  • (Optional) Any materials needed for the chosen game (ball, rope, cards, etc.)

Instructions (Total Time: 60 minutes):

  1. Brainstorm Game Ideas (10–12 minutes)
    • Scouts suggest outdoor or indoor games they enjoy
    • Include: games they already know, made-up games, or creative new versions
    • See Game Time for ideas and instructions for a variety of Games
    • If materials aren’t available, focus on games that use no equipment, like those in the Pick-Up Games section
  2. Vote for a Game (5–7 minutes)
    • Read each suggestion out loud
    • Scouts vote by raising hands or marking their choice
    • Choose the game with the most votes
  3. Play Together (20–30 minutes)
    • Scouts follow the game instructions and enjoy playing together
    • Encourage teamwork, cheering, and helping one another
  4. Optional Second Game (10–12 minutes)
    • If time allows, scouts can choose a second game to play
    • Repeat the vote and play again
  5. Reflect as a Troop (5–6 minutes)
    • Talk about which game was the most fun and why
    • Share how games can help scouts bond while camping
