Activity Description: Scouts match energy foods to movement prompts and act them out to explore how food fuels their bodies.
- Fulfills Step 1 of GSUSA Me Time badge requirements.
Info Needed: Scouts learn that food gives their bodies energy for play and movement. Each scout picks a movement and a matching energy food, then performs the movement and sees how it feels “powered up.”
Items Needed:
- Movement Prompt Cards (one set, scattered or in a pile)
- Food Energy Cards (one set, with food options like banana, bread, egg, etc.)
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 17–20 min):
- Pick and Perform (12–15 min)
- One scout at a time chooses a Movement Prompt Card from the pile
- They read the movement and pick a Food Energy Card that would help fuel that action
- Example: Scout picks “Jump in place”—then chooses “Banana” as their energy food
- They perform the movement with energy, showing how their food choice “powers” the action
- Next scout takes a turn
- If more scouts than cards, reshuffle both piles to keep the game going
- Reflect Together (5–6 min)
- Scouts name one movement-food pair they liked best
- Optional questions to discuss:
- Which foods felt like fast energy?
- Which foods helped with strong or steady movements?
- Were there foods you’d like to try before playing or exercising?
