Free Draw Exercise

Activity Description: Scouts practice freehand drawing by sketching characters and refining their style through quick and focused exercises.

Info Needed: Build drawing skills by practicing character shapes, poses, and expressions through tracing, freehand sketching, or guided tutorials.


Items Needed:

  • Pens or pencils
  • Scrap paper (plenty for each scout)

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15 min):

  1. Pass out pens, pencils, and scrap paper. (2 min)
  2. Create quick character sketches. (6 min)
    • Scouts choose characters from any story they like
    • Focus on who the characters are, not the full scene
    • Avoid erasing or overthinking, just sketch freely
  3. Refine one or two drawings. (4 min)
    • Scouts take more time to adjust lines and add detail
    • (Optional) Encourage scouts to explore different expressions or poses
  4. Share drawings and experiences with the group. (3 min)
    • Scouts discuss what they enjoyed and any challenges they faced during free drawing
