Feel the Dance

Activity Description: Scouts listen to music and move in ways that match how they feel, exploring gentle and energetic movement styles.

Info Needed: Scouts explore how music makes them feel by dancing and moving to different songs.

Items Needed:

  • Music-playing equipment (phone, speaker, etc)
  • (Optional) Scarves or soft fabric to wave

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15–30 min):

  1. Warm up and talk about music (2–6 min)
    • Ask scouts what kinds of music they enjoy. Briefly explain that dancing means moving to music in a way that feels fun and comfortable.
  2. Dance freely to music (10–18 min)
    • Play a few songs with different styles (fast, slow, calm, upbeat).
    • Scouts dance however they like: standing, seated, waving scarves, or stomping feet. Encourage all types of movement, including small gestures or big dancing.
  3. Cool down and reflect (2–6 min)
    • Ask scouts how the music made their bodies feel. Talk briefly about how different songs inspired different movements.
    • (Optional) Have scouts choose one song to play again for a “final dance”.
