Fulfills Step 5 of GSUSA Brownie Pets badge requirements.

Items Needed

  • Pet food (dry kibble, canned food, treats).
  • Pet supplies (toys, leashes, bowls, bedding—optional).
  • Boxes or bags to collect and transport items.
  • Markers and paper for signs or labels.

Instructions

  1. Set Up the Pet Food Drive:
    • Choose a location where pet food donations will be collected.
    • Set up tables, bins, or boxes to keep items organized.
    • Make signs that explain the pet food drive and what items are needed.
  2. Organize Donations:
    • Scouts gather and organize donated pet food and supplies.
    • Sort items into categories (e.g., dog food, cat food, treats, accessories).
  3. Prepare Donations:
    • Check expiration dates and ensure items are safe to donate.
    • Pack pet food and supplies into boxes or bags for delivery.
  4. Deliver or Assist a Pet Shelter or Rescue:
    • Bring donations to a local animal shelter, pet rescue, or food pantry that assists pet owners.
    • If helping at a shelter, scouts may assist with organizing supplies or learning about pet care.
  5. Reflect on the Experience:
    • Discuss why pet food drives are important and how they help animals in need.
    • Talk about responsible pet ownership and ways to support animal shelters.
