Activity Description: Scouts decorate a water bottle and use a tracker to notice how drinking water helps their body feel good.
- Fulfills Step 1 of GSUSA Me Time badge requirements.
Info Needed:
Scouts learn that drinking water helps their bodies stay energized, focused, and feeling great. They decorate a water bottle and track their water intake using a simple handout.
Items Needed:
- Track Your Water by GSUSA
- Undecorated water bottle
- Art supplies (washable stickers, permanent markers, etc.)
- Leader Tip: Regular permanent markers may wash off. Oil-based permanent markers stick better to plastic but may not be suitable for Daisy-level scouts.
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 30–40 min):
- Decorate and Personalize a Water Bottle (10–12 min)
- Scout uses art supplies to decorate their water bottle with colors, stickers, and name.
- Make sure it’s safe to drink from and easy to use every day.
- Learn and Estimate Daily Water Use (8–10 min)
- Scout learns that most kids their age need about 5 to 7 cups of water each day.
- With help, they figure out how many times they should fill and drink from their bottle to match that range.
- Start the Water Tracker (10–12 min)
- Scout looks at the Track Your Water handout and circles or colors a bottle each time they finish drinking one.
- They take the tracker and bottle home to keep going for two weeks.
- Remind them they don’t need to fill every spot. They can use it to notice how water helps them feel good.
- (Optional for next meeting or home conversation) Reflect and Share
- Scout talks about how it felt to drink more water.
- Did it help them play longer, think clearly, or feel better?
