Dance Feelings Card

Activity Description: Scouts listen to music, move in ways that match how they feel, and record their experience using a Dance Feelings Card.

Info Needed: Scouts explore how music makes them feel by dancing and moving to different songs.

Items Needed:

  • Music-playing equipment (phone, tablet, speaker, etc)
  • Printed Dance Feelings Card
  • Crayon, marker, or pencil
  • (Optional) Scarf or soft fabric to wave

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15–30 min):

  1. Select and preview music (2–4 min)
    • Scout chooses 2–3 songs with contrasting tempos or moods (fast, slow, upbeat, calm).
    • They listen to a short section of each to prepare for dancing.
  2. Dance and record feelings (10–18 min)
    • Scout dances however they feel: standing, seated, waving arms, stomping, or swaying.
    • After each song, they complete the Dance Feelings Card, noting both emotions and movements.
    • (Optional) Use a scarf or soft fabric to add flow to their movements.
  3. Reflect and draw (2–6 min)
    • Scout draws their favorite movement inspired by one of the songs.
    • (Optional) Replay their favorite song for a final joyful dance.
