Dance Card Vote

Activity Description: Scouts vote between three songs, dance to the top two, and reflect on how each style made them feel.

Info Needed: Scouts explore how music makes them feel by dancing and moving to different songs.

Items Needed:

Music-playing equipment (phone, tablet, speaker, etc)
Three music cards: Peekaboo (Classical), Gentle Jungle (Jazz), Animal Groove Parade (Pop)
(Optional) scarf or soft fabric to wave
(Optional) drawing supplies for reflection

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15–30 min):

Introduce the music choices (2–3 min)
- Leader reads each music card aloud (about 30 seconds per card).
- Scouts may ask short questions about the style or theme.
Vote for favorite songs (3–5 min)
- Scouts bow their heads and cover their eyes with one arm.
- Leader calls out each song name one at a time.
- Scouts raise their free hand to vote for the songs they like (up to two votes).
- Leader silently counts votes for each card.
- If there’s a tie for second place, repeat the vote between those two songs with only one vote allowed.
Dance to the top two songs (4–6 min)
- Play each winning song (about 1 minute each).
- Scouts move however they feel—jumping, swaying, spinning, or pretending to be animals.
- (Optional) use scarves or soft fabric to add flow to movement.
Reflect on music and movement (5–8 min)
- Scouts share which song made them feel happy, calm, silly, or excited.
- Scouts name one movement they enjoyed most.
- (Optional) discuss:
  • Which song felt gentle or smooth
  • Which song made you want to move fast
  • Which music style would you choose again

Peekaboo (Classical)
Pretend to be a tiny animal hiding and popping out of tall grass, bushes, or trees as the music plays.

Gentle Jungle (Jazz)
Move like a calm jungle animal. Stretch, sway, and relax while listening to smooth sounds and gentle lyrics.

Animal Groove Parade (Pop)
Get up and groove like you’re marching in a wild animal parade. Jump, spin, and dance to the beat with fun lyrics.
