The Badge Archive

Basic Meeting Plans are designed to have minimal supplies and still hit the GSUSA Requirements. Most meetings can be done in a 90 minute time frame.

Items needed:

• At least one copy of Daisy Girl Scout Promise and Law Printable from GSUSA
• Copy of The Brownie Story from GSUSA
• Paper Strips, 10 and Pen/Pencil for each scout
  OR – Printout of page 21 and bring scissors for each scout
• Troop coloring supplies (markers, crayons, or colored pencils)
• Tape, glue stick, or stapler to assemble paper chains
• (Optional) Additional paper strips so they can add to their GS Law chains

(Troops with a larger budget may want to try making a different GS Law Craft instead of the paper chains.)

Girl Scout Promise

Info Needed: The Girl Scout Promise is: “On my honor, I will try: To serve God* and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.” To serve God* and my country means to obey the laws of the land and rules of correct behavior. To help people at all times means to always be kind to our fellow humans and help when you see something you can help with. To live by the Girl Scout Law is to know what the Law is and try and live up to the 10 principles of the Law.

Action Needed: Recite the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Reassure them they do not need to memorize this right this second. Each time scouts meet, they should recite the Girl Scout Promise and Law and eventually they will remember it.

Wiggles Out

Sing a song like the Brownie Smile Song (you can say Girl Scout instead of Brownie) with actions to help get some energy out before the story time activity next.

Brownie Story

Action Needed: Read The Brownie Story.

Questions Needed: Who was the main character? What was the problem? How did the main character help make the problem better?

Paper Law Chain

Action Needed: Create a Paper Chain with each chain having one of the 10 Law Lines. Scouts can color each law line with the same colors as the Daisy Petals or their own favorite colors.

Bonus: If they finish making the 10 chains for the law, have them come up with ways they can live the Girl Scout Law and either write or draw their ideas on additional strips to add to their chain. Who can make the longest chain?

Meeting End

Scouts can continue making new chains to add until it’s time to go home.

General Notes

Note to Leaders – No Basic Plan compiled by The Badge Archive will earn multiple badges in one level. Part of being budget friendly is not costing more than the price of one official GSUSA badge per meeting.

Some badges will take two meetings to finish. This helps scouts enjoy activities and keeps the troop budget in mind by only needing one GSUSA badge for every two meetings. Troops may choose to get a fun patch for one of the meetings if scouts want a badge/patch for every meeting. Scouts can earn the fun patch if they only attend one meeting and get a fun patch and the official badge if they go to both.
