Activity Description: Scouts create their own animal observation journal to record what they notice about animals.

Info Needed: We cannot speak the same language, but we learn a lot about animals just by watching them. What actions do they make? What do they eat? What kind of families do they have?
Items Needed:
- Varies. Pick which version of the craft you wish to make and use its material list OR pick a printout and make your own journal book
- Animal Observation Journal (cereal box cover and other supplies)
- Animals Around Us (printout)
- Nature Study Journal (printout)
- VTK Animal Field Notes form (printout)

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20 min):
- Choose which journal version to make. (2 min)
- Use the supply list from the chosen craft or select a printout version.
- If using a printout, prepare several sheets for each scout.
- Include enough pages for scouts to draw or write about different animals.
- Punch three holes along one side of the pages. (3 min)
- Make sure the holes are spaced evenly.
- Use ribbon, twine, or yarn to bind the pages. (5 min)
- Tie each strand through a hole to hold the pages together.
- (Optional) Decorate the cover with animal stickers or drawings.
- Invite scouts to personalize their journal. (7 min)
- They can add their name, draw their favorite animal, or color the pages.
