Craft: Animal Hide-and-Seek

Activity Description: Scouts make and hide animal crafts to learn how animals use camouflage to stay safe or unseen.

Info Needed: Explore how animals move, hide, and behave by mimicking their actions or observing how they blend into their surroundings.


Items Needed:

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 20–30 min):

  1. Choose which version of the craft to use. (2 min)
    • Use either the worm and critter version or the paper plate version.
    • (Optional) Prepare materials ahead of time.
  2. Help scouts create their animal craft. (8–15 min)
    • Use coloring and decorating to match the animal to a natural background.
    • Encourage scouts to think about how animals blend in.
  3. Hide the finished animal crafts around the space. (5–10 min)
    • Scouts take turns hiding and finding each other’s animals.
    • Remind scouts to look closely and think like an animal observer.
  4. Reflect on which animals were easiest or hardest to find. (5 min)
    • Talk about how camouflage helps animals survive.
    • Ask scouts what colors or patterns worked best.
