Compliment Bag

Info Needed: Scouts write compliments for someone they live with, then read them together as a group.

Items Needed:

  • Slips of paper (1 or more per scout)
  • Pens or markers
  • Bag or box to hold the compliments

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 30–40 minutes):

  1. Write Compliments (10–15 minutes)
    • Each scout writes or draws a compliment for someone who lives with them.
    • Compliments can describe something the person does well, a kind trait, or a reason they’re appreciated.
    • (Optional) Scouts can write more than one compliment if time allows.
  2. Collect and Mix (5–7 minutes)
    • Scouts fold their papers and place them in the bag or box.
    • Mix the compliments gently so they’re shuffled.
    • (Optional) Add decorative touches to the bag or box before mixing.
  3. Share and Reflect (15–18 minutes)
    • Each scout takes a turn pulling out a compliment and reading it aloud.
    • If a compliment feels personal, the scout may choose to read it silently or pass it to another reader.
    • Reflect together on how it feels to give and receive compliments.
    • (Optional) Scouts can take their own compliment slip home as a reminder of their kind words.
