Compli-Mats

Info Needed for Uniquely Us: Scouts recognize that everyone has unique strengths. Scouts take turns writing personal compliments on each other’s Compli-Mats, which they decorate and keep as a positive reminder of their peers’ kindness.

Items Needed:

  • One sheet of 12×18 construction paper per scout
  • Pen or pencil for writing compliments
  • Markers, crayons, or stickers for decorating (Optional)

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 30–40 minutes):

  1. Set Up Compli-Mats (5–7 minutes)
    • Give each scout a large piece of construction paper.
    • (Optional) Print or draw a large heart on each sheet.
    • Scouts write their name clearly at the top of their paper.
  2. Rotate and Write Compliments (15–18 minutes)
    • Scouts rotate around the room or table, stopping at each Compli-Mat.
    • At each stop, they write a compliment about the scout named on the mat.
    • Compliments can include kind traits, how they make others feel, or something personally appreciated.
    • Remind scouts to speak from the heart and be respectful.
    • (Optional) Use a compliment brainstorm list for ideas.
  3. Return and Decorate (10–15 minutes)
    • Scouts return to their own Compli-Mat and read the compliments written by others.
    • They decorate their mat with markers or stickers.
    • (Optional) Encourage scouts to trace favorite compliments or add fun borders and icons.
    • Scouts can keep their mat or share one compliment that made them feel proud.
