Info Needed for Uniquely Us: Scouts recognize that everyone has unique strengths. Scouts take turns writing personal compliments on each other’s Compli-Mats, which they decorate and keep as a positive reminder of their peers’ kindness.
Items Needed:
- One sheet of 12×18 construction paper per scout
- Pen or pencil for writing compliments
- Markers, crayons, or stickers for decorating (Optional)
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 30–40 minutes):
- Set Up Compli-Mats (5–7 minutes)
- Give each scout a large piece of construction paper.
- (Optional) Print or draw a large heart on each sheet.
- Scouts write their name clearly at the top of their paper.
- Rotate and Write Compliments (15–18 minutes)
- Scouts rotate around the room or table, stopping at each Compli-Mat.
- At each stop, they write a compliment about the scout named on the mat.
- Compliments can include kind traits, how they make others feel, or something personally appreciated.
- Remind scouts to speak from the heart and be respectful.
- (Optional) Use a compliment brainstorm list for ideas.
- Return and Decorate (10–15 minutes)
- Scouts return to their own Compli-Mat and read the compliments written by others.
- They decorate their mat with markers or stickers.
- (Optional) Encourage scouts to trace favorite compliments or add fun borders and icons.
- Scouts can keep their mat or share one compliment that made them feel proud.
