Info Needed: Explore how comics are created and understood by looking closely at characters, emotions, and storytelling techniques used in comic strips.
Items Needed:
- Pens or pencils
- A list of scavenger hunt items related to comics
- Access to a local comic store
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 40 min):
- Visit a comic store and give each scout a scavenger hunt list. (5 min)
- Scouts may work individually or in pairs
- Encourage them to look for at least seven different items from the list
- Search the store and locate items from the list. (20 min)
- (Optional) Scouts take notes for each item they find
- (Optional) Notes can include why the item fits the category and what they liked or found interesting
- Regroup outside or in a designated meeting area to share discoveries. (10 min)
- Scouts describe their favorite finds and compare what they noticed
- (Optional) Discuss how the items reflect different comic styles, characters, or storytelling approaches. (5 min)
