Activity Description: Scouts create a drawing that shows how one subject changes across different seasons.
- Fulfills Step 2 of GSUSA Brownie Art and Design badge requirements
- Fulfills Step 3 of GSUSA Junior Art and Design badge requirements.
Info Needed: Different colors can show different feelings, like happy, sad, or calm. Colors also help us see and understand what things are, like a green tree or a blue sky. Using colors in art helps make the pictures more interesting and tells a story.
Items Needed:
- One sheet of paper per scout
- Markers, crayons, or colored pencils (normal art medium)
- (Optional) A second, less familiar medium such as watercolor, sidewalk chalk, oil pastels, or ink

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 25 min):
- Divide the paper into equal sections for each season (2 min)
- Scouts fold the paper or draw lines to make 2 or 4 parts.
- (Optional) Use fewer sections if focusing on just two seasons.
- Choose a subject that changes with the seasons (2 min)
- Examples include a tree, flower, animal, or outdoor scene.
- Draw the subject in each season’s section (12 min)
- Show how the subject looks in winter, spring, summer, and fall.
- Use different colors and lines to show changes.
- (Optional) Try a second medium in one section to explore texture or mood.
- Compare the drawings and reflect on the changes (9 min)
- What colors were used in each season
- Which version looks the most different
- How did the choice of medium affect the artwork
