C/S/A Project – Historical Figures for My Promise, My Faith

  • Currently troops must find their own names in a list of Historical Figures by State. Each troop must scan and look through names to find one that matches one of the 10 Girl Scout Law value lines.

The problem: We need scouts to go through and sort the female Historical Figures to make it easier to find the right Historical figures for their Law Lines. It also is a huge help, to have a biography that has the right information for fact finding about My Promise, My Faith.

Example Figure – Grace Hopper

NOTE – C/S/A scouts can earn their own My Promise, My Faith by doing this project if they also make the art work with three quotes needed to post in their room for the year. See the My Promise, My Faith Basic Meeting Plan for more information.

What C/S/A Troops and Juliette’s can do:

Copy the following instructions into a Document file and type in your response to each. Or you can use the Printed PDF form if you prefer.

  • Pick a Historical Figure to research. Either one on the list or your own choice!
  • Figure out which Girl Scout Law value lines match their accomplishments – it might be one, or it might be multiple.
Example: Those who fight for women’s rights fit well with Respect Myself and Others or Make the World a Better Place depending on their focus. Athletic accomplishments work well with Courageous and Strong or Responsible for What I Do and Say as it takes a lot of work to become an athlete. Law Enforcement and Political figures could easily work with Respect Authority, but might have an influence towards a specific trait, like being known for Honest and Fair or Considerate and Caring.
  • Use at least two trusted sources (no Wikipedia) as biographies and information about your Historical Figure. Provide the Book and Author Title, or the full web address so we can create a MLA reference for the biography. Reminder: One biography should already be provided on the Historical Figures website.
  • Summarize their biography to help younger scouts get enough information to get to know the character. Older scouts can use it as a launching point for them to read the full biographies we will link in the Reference section. Only facts here.
Include birthday (and location if possible), why they are famous, how they got there (if possible), what their character traits are, and when they died.
  • Now for your opinion. It matters! Why do you think this Historical Figure is a great example of one of the Line Laws you chose? This is your personal section to honor your Historical Figure and bring more people to understand how amazing you think they are.
  • Now “Sign” your work. Note – This can be multiple First Names if it was a group project!
    • First Name (or Camp Name):
    • Girl Scout Council:
    • Troop Number (Or “Juliette”):
    • (Example: Scout K., GSSJC – Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, Juliette)
(Example: Callie, Hailey, Helen, Leighton, Sophia, GSSJC – Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council, Troop 157141)
  • E-mail your Historical Figure to thebadgearchive@gmail.com for it to be posted online as a reference for any future scout to earn their My Promise, My Faith pin!
  • BONUS – You can include a list of videos or a timeline of your historical figure.
    Example Figure – Grace Hopper

REPEATED NOTE – C/S/A scouts can earn their own My Promise, My Faith by doing this project if they also make the art work with three quotes needed to post in their room for the year. See the My Promise, My Faith Basic Meeting Plan for more information.
