This is for a ceremony only. It does not meet the Rainbow Bridging badge requirements. Troops should earn their Rainbow Bridging badge at a troop meeting prior to this ceremony, where they are awarded their Rainbow Bridge badge.
Poem used is by Carol Lee Spages from Bridging Ceremonies by GSEM
Preparation:
Set up a small bridge or symbolic pathway for the Daisy scouts to cross. Arrange for Brownie scouts to form a welcoming circle on the other side of the bridge.
Items Needed:
- Bridge or pathway for crossing
- Bridging certificates, Brownie pins, or other recognitions
Ceremony Instructions:
- Opening:
Begin the ceremony with a flag presentation and a cheerful Girl Scout song that the troop enjoys. - Leader’s Welcome:
The leader explains the purpose of the ceremony:
“Today, we celebrate the growth and achievements of our Daisy Scouts as they take their next step in the Girl Scout journey and become Brownies. This bridge symbolizes your transition to new adventures and learning.” - Recitation of the Poem:
As the Daisy scouts line up to cross the bridge, the leader or a selected scout recites the poem:
“Girl Scout Daisies, cross the bridge,
Your Daisy days are done.
Come and join our Brownie ring…
Find adventure and lots of fun.” - Crossing the Bridge:
Each Daisy scout crosses the bridge one by one. As they step across, they are welcomed on the other side by a Brownie scout who shakes their hand or escorts them into the Brownie ring. - Welcoming Circle:
Once all the Daisies have crossed, the new Brownie scouts join the circle. The leader invites everyone to recite the Girl Scout Promise together:
“On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.” - Presentation of Recognitions:
The leader presents bridging certificates, Brownie pins, or any other recognitions to the new Brownies, congratulating them on their accomplishments. - Closing:
Conclude the ceremony with a Friendship Circle and a troop-selected Girl Scout song to celebrate the joyful transition.
