Bridging – Stepping Stones

This is for a ceremony only. It does not meet the Rainbow Bridging badge requirements. Troops should earn their Rainbow Bridging badge at a troop meeting prior to this ceremony, where they are awarded their Rainbow Bridge badge.

Preparation

  • Daisy Girl Scouts and their leader stand on one side of a “brook.”
  • Brownie Girl Scouts and their leader form a circle on the other side of the brook, leaving one side of the circle open toward the Daisies.

Items Needed

  • Awards and Brownie Pins
  • Stepping stones for the “brook”
  • Award pouches
  • Magic Wishing Well or pond centerpiece
  • Song lyrics or music for sing-alongs
  • Prepared ceremony script
  • Space setup for the Brownie Ring

Instructions

  1. Daisy Leader Remarks:
“For a year, you’ve been Daisy Girl Scouts,
    Learning and growing.
Daisy Petals you have earned, and
On to Brownies, you are going.”
  2. Brownie Chant:
    Brownie Girl Scouts chant together:
“Stepping stones are for you, Daisy Girl Scouts.
    Cross them while we sing.
Your Daisy days are over now,
Come and join our Brownie Ring.”
  3. Crossing the Stepping Stones:
Daisy Girl Scouts approach the stepping stones. The Daisy Leader presents each girl with an award pouch as she crosses.
  4. Welcoming into the Brownie Ring:
After crossing the last stepping stone, each Daisy is greeted by a “sister” Brownie Girl Scout, who leads her into the Brownie Ring.
  5. (Optional) Tell the Brownie Story.
  6. Magic Wishing Well/Pond:
Once all Daisies are in the Brownie Ring, the Brownie Leader asks:
“Are you ready to become Brownie Girl Scouts?”
  7. Twist Me and Turn Me Rhyme:
Each bridging Daisy is turned gently by her “sister” Brownie while chanting:
“Twist me and turn me and show me an elf,
I looked in the water and saw… (myself).”
  8. Promise and Pinning:
The new Brownie Girl Scouts recite the Girl Scout Promise, then receive their Brownie pins from their sister Brownie or the leader.
    Brownie Leader explains:
“Your Brownie pin has been turned upside down.
You must wear it this way until you have done a ‘Good Turn’ for someone.
A Good Turn means doing something nice for someone without being asked.”
  9. Celebration Song:
The ceremony concludes with everyone singing either the “Brownie Smile Song” or “Make New Friends.”
