Poem used is by The Badge Archive
Items Needed
- A symbolic bridge or pathway for crossing
- A printed copy of the poem
- Silver key necklaces (one for each bridging Girl Scout)
- Cadette badges and certificates
- (Optional) Decorations
Before the Ceremony
- Determine if the troop leader, a designated scout, or multiple scouts will each recite a portion of the poem.
Ceremony Instructions
- Gather everyone and welcome families and guests.
Leader: “Welcome to our special bridging ceremony. Tonight, we celebrate the transition of our Junior Girl Scouts to Cadettes. This bridge represents their growth, achievements, and the new adventures awaiting them as Cadettes.” - Invite the troop leader, designate a scout, or have multiple scouts each recite a portion of the poem:
From Junior to Cadette, they’ve grown so much,
Ready to embrace new challenges and such.
With a Silver Key in hand, they bridge with pride,
Unlocking adventures on the other side.
Every step they take shows how far they’ve come,
Prepared for what’s next, no matter the sum.
They’re bold, they’re fearless, determined, and strong,
Ready to step up and right every wrong.
The Silver Key gleams as they start this new phase,
Lighting the world in creative new ways.
So here’s to these Cadettes, with hearts shining bright,
Chasing their futures, as they soar to new heights.
- One by one, each scout walks across the bridge.
Leader greets the scout on the other side and asks: “(Name), are you willing to accept the challenges and responsibilities of being a Girl Scout Cadette, and to live by the Girl Scout Promise and Law?”
Scout responds: “I am.” - After the scout responds, the leader places a silver key necklace around her neck and says:
Leader: “I present you with this Silver Key as a symbol of unlocking the doors to new opportunities in Cadette Girl Scouting. Wear it with pride as you step into this exciting new chapter.” - After all scouts have crossed the bridge, the leader presents the bridging badge and certificate to each scout.
Leader: “I now present you with your bridging badge and certificate to celebrate this important milestone. Wear them proudly as a Cadette Girl Scout.” - Form a Friendship Circle with all attendees.
Leader: “Congratulations to our new Cadette Girl Scouts. You have worked hard to reach this moment, and we are so proud of you. As Cadettes, you will continue to grow, lead, and shine. Let’s end with the Girl Scout Promise.” - Recite the Girl Scout Promise as a group to conclude the ceremony.
