This is for a ceremony only. It does not meet the Rainbow Bridging badge requirements. Troops should earn their Rainbow Bridging badge at a troop meeting prior to this ceremony, where they are awarded their Rainbow Bridge badge.
Preparation:
Set up five stepping stones for Girl Scout Daisies and a bridge for Brownie, Junior, and Cadette levels. Arrange seating and spaces for families, and ensure pins, patches, and certificates are prepared for each level. Prepare the flag for the closing flag ceremony.
Items Needed:
- Five stepping stones
- A bridge
- Pins, patches, and certificates for each level
- A script for leaders
- Song lyrics for “Taps”
Ceremony Instructions:
- Girl Scout Daisies Bridging to Girl Scout Brownies:
- As Daisies step over the stepping stones, the leader recites:
“Stepping stones are for you Daisies,
Cross them while you sing.
Your Daisy days are over now,
Come join our Brownie ring.” - Girl Scout Daisies join the Brownie circle, repeat the Girl Scout Promise, and are pinned by a sister scout or the leader.
- The leader says:
“When you were a very young Scout,
You wore Daisy Scout Blue.
You learned the joy of singing
With Daisy friends so true.
But now that you are older
You will be trying something new.
You will bring along your happy smile,
To Brownies, we are welcoming you.”
- As Daisies step over the stepping stones, the leader recites:
- Girl Scout Brownies Bridging to Girl Scout Juniors:
- Girl Scout Brownies stand in their circle with bridging Brownies in the middle.
- The leader says:
“Now is the time to say goodbye,
Break the ring and away you fly.” - Bridging Brownies cross the bridge and are welcomed by Junior scouts at the other end. They repeat the Girl Scout Promise and are pinned by a sister scout or the leader.
- The Junior leader says:
“When you were a young Scout,
You learned through trying many things.
Now you are ready for new adventures,
As Juniors, your ideas can take wings.”
- Girl Scout Juniors Bridging to Girl Scout Cadettes:
- Juniors cross the bridge, repeat the Girl Scout Promise, and are pinned by a sister scout or the leader.
- The Cadette leader says:
“When you were a young Scout,
You learned a lot of things.
By singing, badge work, and helping others,
You learned what happiness you can bring.
Now you come to Cadettes,
Ready to take a greater part
In Girl Scouting and your community,
And Cadettes is just the start.”
- Final Reading and Girl Scout Promise:
- The leader reads to all scouts:
“When I hear of young Scouts
Who haven’t been a Scout at all,
I think of all the wonders
That they have never seen.
We’ve watched you Scouts grow
And marveled at the sight,
Your caring, talents, and abilities,
And using them just right.” - The leader invites everyone:
“Please join me in reciting the Girl Scout Promise.” - All recite the Girl Scout Promise:
“On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.”
- The leader reads to all scouts:
- Closing Ceremony:
- Retire the colors with a closing flag ceremony conducted by the Color Guard.
- End with a Friendship Circle and sing “Taps” together to conclude the ceremony.
