This is for a ceremony only. It does not meet the Rainbow Bridging badge requirements. Troops should earn their Rainbow Bridging badge at a troop meeting prior to this ceremony, where they are awarded their Rainbow Bridge badge.
Preparation:
Begin the ceremony with an opening flag ceremony and singing “America, the Beautiful.” Arrange the area with a bridge and tables for awards. Form girls into their respective groups based on their current level and planned bridging.
Items Needed:
- Bridging patches
- Bridging certificates
- Membership stars and discs
- Level-specific pins or wings (e.g., Brownie Wings, Junior Pins)
Ceremony Instructions:
- First-Grade Girl Scout Daisies Bridging to Girl Scout Brownies:
- Girl Scout Brownie Leader says: “Come on Scouts and join our ring; here we plan most everything.”
- Girl Scout Brownies escort bridging Daisies into their circle.
- Present each Daisy with their bridging patch, certificate, membership star, disc, and Brownie pin (if earned).
- Third-Grade Girl Scout Brownies Fly-Up to Girl Scout Juniors:
- Girl Scout Brownie Leader says: “Now it’s time to say goodbye; break the ring and out you fly.”
- Brownie Ring breaks to let the bridging Brownies out. They approach the bridge.
- Brownie Leader recites the poem:
“Girl Scout Brownies you are just about
To become a Junior Girl Scout.
In the troop you soon will find
Girl Scout Juniors are true and kind.
So now I give you Brownie Wings
That you may fly to bigger things.” - Present Brownie Wings to each bridging Brownie.
- Brownies cross the bridge and are welcomed by Junior Scouts at the other end. Each Junior Scout escorts a Brownie to their Junior horseshoe.
- Once all are in place, recite the Girl Scout Promise together. Present each new Junior with their pin, bridging patch, and certificate.
- Girl Scout Juniors Bridging to Girl Scout Cadettes:
- Girl Scout Junior Leader says: “As we say ‘welcome to you,’ we have to say goodbye too. The time has come for some to cross; The Girl Scout Cadette’s gain is our loss.”
- Juniors approach the bridge.
- Present each Junior with their bridging patch, certificate, membership star, and disc.
- Juniors cross the bridge and are welcomed by Cadettes at the other end.
- Girl Scout Cadettes Bridging to Girl Scout Seniors:
- Girl Scout Cadette Leader says: “We welcome our newest Cadettes into the heart of our troop, where you’ll step into roles of greater responsibility and exciting new challenges. As you prepare to lead with confidence and wisdom, we also bid farewell to those moving forward to embrace the journey of Senior Girl Scouting. Congratulations on this step in your growth!”
- Cadettes approach the bridge.
- Cadette Leader gives each Cadette the Girl Scout Handshake. Present each Cadette with their bridging patch, certificate, membership star, and disc.
- Cadettes cross the bridge and are welcomed by Seniors at the other end.
- Girl Scout Seniors Bridging to Girl Scout Ambassadors:
- Girl Scout Senior Leader says: “We welcome our newest Seniors, ready to take on meaningful roles and continue your journey of leadership and service. As you rise to meet the opportunities ahead, we also send our heartfelt goodbyes to those advancing to become Girl Scout Ambassadors—a role where your experiences and talents will shine even brighter. Best wishes as you step boldly into this new chapter!”
- Seniors approach the bridge.
- Senior Leader gives each Senior the Girl Scout Handshake. Present each Senior with their bridging patch, certificate, membership star, and disc.
- Seniors cross the bridge and are welcomed by Ambassadors at the other end.
- Close the ceremony by singing “Girl Scouts Together” as a unified group, celebrating the transition and achievements of all scouts.
