Items Needed:
- One candle for each Scout
- One flower for each Scout
- One bandana for each Scout
- Token gifts (provided by the Scouts) for their parents/guardians
Ceremony Instructions:
- Provide each Scout with a candle. The leader says:
“Do you, as a Scout, accept the challenge this candle represents, to shed your light as a Scout in all that you do, say, and think? Do you accept the challenge of being a guiding light to your peers and following the ideals exemplified by this candle’s unwavering flame of truth and goodness?”
Scouts respond: “Yes” (or “We do,” “We will”). - Hand each Scout a flower. The leader says:
“Do you, as a Scout, accept today’s responsibilities to seek knowledge, explore careers, and take on the challenge of playing an active role in this changing world?”
Scouts respond: “Yes” (or “We do,” “We will”). - Provide each Scout with a bandana. The leader says:
“The versatility of this bandana, a tradition in Scouting, serves as a reminder of our motto: ‘Be Prepared.’ Do you accept the challenge that this bandana represents?”
Scouts respond: “Yes” (or “We do,” “We will”). - The leader concludes:
“I congratulate you on this step forward in Scouting. I look forward to seeing your progress and the good work you do for both yourself and your community. With this in mind, please join me in renewing the Scout Promise.” - All participants repeat the Scout Promise together.
- One Scout steps forward and addresses the audience, saying:
“Parents and guardians, you have stood by our side to help, comfort, and support us as we’ve grown. Now that we are continuing our journey in Scouting, we will need your help and support even more. Accept this small gift as our token of thanks for shaping who we are and helping us strive for who we want to become.” - Scouts present their token gifts to their parents/guardians and return to the horseshoe formation.
