Bridging – Brownie Uniform Magic Oven Recipe

This is for a ceremony only. It does not meet the Rainbow Bridging badge requirements. Troops should earn their Rainbow Bridging badge at a troop meeting prior to this ceremony, where they are awarded their Rainbow Bridge badge

Items Needed:

  • A decorated cardboard oven (appliance box with a front flap or lid to “insert” and “remove” a tray) large enough to hold the tray of uniforms.
  • Large mixing bowl, wooden spoons, measuring cups, flour sifter
  • Optional props: aprons, chef hats, timer with bell, cookbook or handbook
  • Empty baking tray (to symbolize the batter going in)
  • Another tray pre-filled with Brownie vests or sashes, pins, and certificates (hidden inside or behind the oven)
  • Symbolic bridge or pathway (optional for final crossover)

Before the Ceremony:

  1. Decorate the oven and ensure it can hold or conceal the second tray.
  2. Rehearse the mixing sequence so each girl has a role.
  3. Place the full tray of Brownie gear behind or inside the oven, ready to be “revealed.”
  4. Practice any transitions or lines so all scouts feel confident.

Formation:

  • Brownies (or older scouts) gather at a mixing table in front of the oven
  • Daisy Girl Scouts are seated nearby, wearing their Daisy tunics
  • Co-leaders or helpers are stationed near the oven to manage the tray switch

Instructions:

  • Leader (to Brownies): “We sure could use some new Brownies to fill the empty spaces in our Brownie Ring.”
  • Scout 1: “Yes! What can we do about it?”
  • Scout 2: “I know! Let’s make a batch of new Brownies!”
  • Leader: “Great idea! Let’s check our Girl Scout Handbook to find the perfect recipe.”
  • Scout 3 (pretending to read): “Here it is! A recipe full of courage, friendship, and fun.”
  • Leader: “To make the perfect Brownie, we mix the Girl Scout Promise, the Girl Scout Law, and our four program goals.”
  • (Brownies begin adding symbolic “ingredients” as each girl reads her line.)
  • Scout 4: “1 cup of Promise to serve God and my country.” (pours)
  • Scout 5: “2 cups of honesty.” (pours)
  • Scout 6: “4 tablespoons of cheerfulness.” (stirs)
  • Scout 7: “1 cup of thoughtfulness, ½ cup fairness, ½ cup helpfulness.”
  • Scout 8: “2 tablespoons of sisterhood of scouting.”
  • Scout 9: “1 cup respect for authority, 1 cup respect for myself and others.”
  • Scout 10: “½ cup wise use of resources, 6 tablespoons of care for the world.”
  • Scout 11: “½ cup each: developing potential, relating to others, building values, contributing to society.”
  • Scout 12 (placing “batter” in empty tray): “Our batter is ready! Let’s bake it with a little kindness and love.”
  • (The tray is placed inside the oven. One scout rings a bell.)
  • Leader: “Ding! They’re done! Let’s see what came out of the oven.”
  • (A co-leader discreetly swaps or reveals the prepared tray from inside the oven. Another helper lifts the full tray out with a flourish.)
  • Leader: “Look—our recipe worked! A full tray of Brownie sashes, pins, and certificates, ready for our Daisies to step into their next adventure.”
  • Bridging Moment:
    • One by one, each Daisy is called up by name
    • She receives her Brownie sash or vest from the tray, puts it on with help if needed
    • A leader pins her Brownie pin and hands her the certificate
  • Leader (to each girl): “(Name), are you ready to live by the Girl Scout Promise and Law and become a Brownie Girl Scout?”
  • Girl: “I am!”
  • Leader: “Welcome to Brownie Girl Scouting!”
  • Closing:
    • Form a Brownie Ring with all new and current Brownies
    • Recite the Girl Scout Promise together
    • End with a celebratory song like “Make New Friends” or the “Brownie Smile Song”
