Bridging – Basic Bridge to Adult

This is for a ceremony only. It does not meet the Rainbow Bridging badge requirements. Troops should earn their Rainbow Bridging badge at a troop meeting prior to this ceremony, where they are awarded their Rainbow Bridge badge.

Preparation:
Decorate a symbolic bridge (real or makeshift) to represent the transition. Arrange for Girl Scout Ambassadors to wear their current sashes or vests and have Adult vest, or something symbolic to replace the uniforms or bridging patches ready on the other side.

Step 1: Opening Remarks

  • Begin by welcoming everyone to the Bridging to Adult Girl Scout Ceremony.
  • Set the tone with an inspiring statement: “The moment is here! Today, we celebrate the journey of young women who have embraced the values of Girl Scouting, and we honor how these values will forever be a part of who they are. These young women are stepping into the world as individuals of courage, confidence, and character.”

Step 2: Highlight the Significance of Bridging

  • Share the importance of becoming an adult Girl Scout: “By bridging to Girl Scout adult, these remarkable young women join nearly one million volunteers across the country and around the world. They also become part of a global sisterhood of 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and 50 million alumnae worldwide, united by shared values and experiences.”

Step 3: Future Opportunities

  • Discuss how bridging opens doors for continued involvement and growth:
  • “As adult Girl Scouts, there are countless ways to stay connected to the sisterhood:
    • Inspire younger Girl Scouts by volunteering with a troop, teaching skills, or mentoring girls on leadership journeys.
    • Chaperone Girl Scouts on adventures like attending Aerospace Camp, horseback riding in the mountains, or exploring global culture at Our Cabana in Mexico.
    • Become a camp counselor, represent GSUSA at events, or even serve on the board of directors.
    • Join Campus Girl Scouts in college to make new friends, earn service learning credits, and continue building leadership skills.

Step 4: Reflect on the Journey

  • Acknowledge the dedication and achievements of those bridging: “Whether building resumes, blazing career paths, or forming lifelong friendships, these young women have a worldwide network of sisters they can connect with for life. Their Girl Scout journey has shaped them into leaders and dreamers, ready to inspire the next generation.”

Step 5: Presentation of Pins

  • Invite each young woman to come forward.
  • Present the Girl Scout Adult pin to each bridging member.
  • Offer a heartfelt congratulation: “Congratulations on this new chapter of your Girl Scout journey! Your commitment to Girl Scouts has made an impact that will last a lifetime.”

Step 6: Closing Remarks

  • Conclude with a reminder of their ongoing role in the Girl Scout community: “As adult Girl Scouts, you have the opportunity to give back, share your experiences, and inspire others to dream big. The values you’ve gained here will guide you in making the world a better place.”
  • Encourage the audience to join in celebrating the new adult Girl Scouts with applause.
