Activity Description: Scouts brainstorm and try out big body movements to explore how they use their whole bodies during play and activity.
- Fulfills Step 3 of GSUSA Daisy Fun With Movement badge requirements.
Info Needed: Scouts practice using their full bodies and/or fine motor skills. They learn how big movements help them play, explore, and use their whole bodies. They name and try different full-body actions in a fun and active way.
Items Needed:
- Pen or pencil
- (Optional) VTK Move Big, Move Small by GSUSA
Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 35–45 min):
- Talk about big movements (5–6 min)
- Explain that big movements use arms, legs, and trunk. Ask scouts to name ways they move big when they play.
- Make a movement list (6–8 min)
- Write down big movement ideas shared by scouts. Include actions like jumping jacks, spinning, tiptoeing, crawling, door opening.
- Aim for at least 10 movement ideas on the list.
- Try out the movements (15–18 min)
- Have each scout pick 3 moves from the list (or make up their own).
- Scouts try each movement in the meeting space safely.
- Repeat a few if time allows or combine into a short “movement parade.”
- Reflect on body movement (5–7 min)
- Ask scouts how those movements felt. Talk about where they use big movements, like the playground, at home, or outdoors.
