Big and Small Movements

Activity Description: Scouts play a fast-paced movement using big and small actions from a worksheet, then reflect on how each movement felt and what body parts were used.

Info Needed: Scouts practice using their full bodies and/or fine motor skills. They try playful movement challenges.


Items Needed:

  • Printed Move Big, Move Small worksheet (See below)
  • Open space to move safely
  • (Optional) Pencil or crayon
  • (Optional) Chart paper or whiteboard for group list
  • (Optional) Clipboard or hard surface for writing

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 17 min):

  1. Play the Movement Mix-Up Game (8–13 min)
    • Call out or demonstrate a mix of big and small movements from the Move Big, Move Small worksheet.
    • Change movements every 30 seconds.
    • Go through the full list or stop after 8 minutes.
    • (Optional) Let scouts suggest their own movements too.
  2. Reflect on the movements (4–5 min)
    • Ask scouts what felt different between big and small movements. Which movements made them feel excited, silly, or relaxed?
    • Keep this quick. Spend about 10 seconds on each movement.
      • Read each movement used and ask scouts if it was big or small.
      • Help scouts name the body part(s) used.
