Info Needed for badge requirements: Personally Identifiable Information (PII) includes details like your name, birthday, address, email, phone number, or password—anything that identifies you. Sharing PII online can lead to risks like hacking or identity theft. To stay safe: Don’t share PII with strangers online. Even small details, like your favorite color, can reveal more about you when combined with other information. Always think carefully about what you share and how much you share.
Items Needed
- My Family and Me by GSUSA (one set for each scout)
- (Optional) Picture of family stickers on a car showing information like names, sports, or schools
- Blank paper
- Pens
- Scissors
- Glue or tape
- (Optional) Stickers
- Paper bag (one for each scout)
Instructions
- (Optional) Show a picture of family stickers on a car. Explain that stickers can reveal private information about a family, such as names, ages, or schools, which should be kept private.
- Give each scout a My Family and Me handout, paper, scissors, and markers.
- Scouts cut out items from the handout that match their family. They can write their family’s names, ages, grades, or other details on the pictures.
- Scouts glue or tape public information (safe to share) on the outside of their paper bag. Examples: favorite color, favorite food.
- Scouts place private information (not safe to share) inside the bag. Examples: name, address, school name.
- Scouts decorate their bags with drawings or designs to make them unique. (optional) Give them stickers to decorate.
- Scouts share their decorated bags with the group, explaining what they put on the outside (public information) and inside (private information).
- Discuss how private information (inside the bag) should not be shared online or with strangers. Talk about how public decorations, like on a lunchbox, can be safe as long as they don’t reveal personal details.
