Art Hunt

Activity Description: Scouts explore an art collection using a scavenger hunt to notice colors, styles, and materials.

Info Needed: Artists and designers use different materials (called mediums) to create all kinds of art. Makers may draw, paint, build, sculpt, or even create art on a computer. By exploring the styles and materials they use, we can better understand what creativity looks like around us, and how it can inspire our own art.

Items Needed:

  • An art collection (either brought to a meeting or field trip to see)
  • Printout of your chosen scavenger hunt for each scout or small scout group

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 25 min):

  1. Choose a scavenger hunt that matches the art collection (3 min)
  2. Scouts explore the art collection using the scavenger hunt (15 min)
    • Look for colors, shapes, materials, and styles.
  3. Scouts share what they found and what inspired them (7 min)
    • (Optional) Talk about ideas for things they might like to make.
