Animal Movement

Activity Description: Scouts explore how animals move by acting out different motions and behaviors.

Info Needed: Explore how animals move, hide, and behave by mimicking their actions or observing how they blend into their surroundings.


Items Needed:

Instructions (Estimated Total Time: 15 min):

  1. Choose one version of the animal movement activity. (2 min)
    • Use no materials, printed cards, or folded origami depending on what works best.
    • (Optional) Prepare materials ahead of time.
  2. Introduce the idea that scouts will move like different animals. (2 min)
    • Encourage scouts to think about how animals walk, crawl, hop, fly, or swim.
    • (Optional) Show examples using cards or drawings.
  3. Let scouts take turns choosing or acting out animal movements. (8 min)
    • Use cards, origami, or imagination to guide the choices.
    • Encourage variety and creativity in how scouts move.
  4. Wrap up with a short reflection. (3 min)
    • Ask scouts which animals were easiest or hardest to mimic.
    • Talk briefly about how movement helps animals survive.
