*Inspired by an activity choice in the GSUSA 1980s program for Across Generations
The Adopt-A-Grandparent program helps young people build friendships with older adults who may live in nursing homes or senior centers. These programs are designed to reduce loneliness and create meaningful connections between generations. Scouts can participate by visiting, writing letters, playing games, or sharing stories with their adopted grandparent.
If there isn’t a program nearby, you can help start one! Ask a local nursing home, hospital, or senior group if they’d like to partner with your troop. Many places welcome volunteers and would love to help you set up regular visits or pen-pal exchanges.
