Acting Customer Feedback

Items Needed

  • Paper (one sheet per scout)
  • Pencil or pen
  • Scout’s creation
    • app (drawings and/or feature list)
    • prototype (drawing or model previously created)

Instructions (Total Time: 35–45 minutes)

  1. Write a Customer Card (5–7 minutes)
    • Scouts create a simple profile of a customer who might use their invention or app
    • Include details like age, hobbies, interests, or a problem they need solved
    • Examples: “Dog owner who wants an easier way to carry treats” or “Student who always loses pencils”
  2. Swap and Role-Play (15–20 minutes)
    • Scouts pair up and exchange customer cards
    • Each scout acts like the customer described on the card they received
    • The creator presents their idea
    • The “customer” gives feedback by answering:
      • One thing they like
      • One thing they would change
      • Whether they would use or buy the idea (as the character they’re role-playing)
  3. Record Feedback (5–7 minutes)
    • Scouts write down the feedback they received from their role-played customer
    • They reflect on how acting from a different point of view gave new insight
  4. Reflect and Improve (7–10 minutes)
    • Scouts choose whether they want to make updates to their idea based on feedback
    • They can sketch new features, revise the drawing, or add a note about what they’d change
