Back to the Drawing Board

We just wrapped up a week of amazing work trying to figure out how to map our activities directly to official VTK plans without infringing on copyright or terms of use. After a final consultation on our 3 Cheers for Animals model, we’ve had to make another big pivot.

The Legal Reality

If a website provides a 1:1 map for every session in a proprietary guide, it can be classified as a “market substitute.” Basically, brand protection looks at whether a third-party site allows users to “bypass” official member-only systems. To keep The Badge Archive safe and online, we cannot show 1:1 session maps or use official VTK titles.

What this means for you

We’re going to be moving away from “Meeting 1, Meeting 2” formatting. Instead, we’ll be listing our own unique, created-from-scratch activities under our own titles. You won’t be able to tell exactly which meeting used which activity in the VTK version, but you will have a library of vetted, practical ways to help your scouts lead the way.

To be honest, our activities are different for a reason. The official guides suggest things like kindergarteners doing papier-mâché birdbaths just to use them as a multi-meeting background prop. We’re more about practical solutions. Our activity we have is decorating a pie tin with stickers and then making sure it’s used in an activity that actually qualifies for a Journey step rather than just being a “cute theme” that eats up your entire meeting.

It’s going to take time to rebuild this way. But that’s time we are spending going over everything personally to ensure every post is age-appropriate and easy to follow for leaders who might be doing an activity for the very first time.

Thanks for sticking with us!
