Spotlight – Women Helpers – Emilee Rea

Behind every great scouting experience is a dedicated leader working to keep things organized, accessible, and inspiring. Emilee Rea is one of those leaders. She turned her passion for scouting into practical resources that help other troops thrive.

Through her GS Leader Resources blog, she has built a collection of tools that simplify badge tracking, optimize uniform placement, and provide invaluable guidance for scouting volunteers nationwide.

Her work ensures that leaders can focus on empowering their scouts instead of getting lost in logistics. A Quick Link to her most used resource is her Badgez tracking sheets.

A Troop Leader’s Mission to Simplify Scouting

Scouting is filled with achievements, adventures, and traditions, but managing all the details—from badge tracking to uniform placement—can quickly become overwhelming. That’s where Emilee Rea comes in.

As a Scout Mom, Troop Leader, Service Unit Team Member, and former Girl Scout, Emilee has spent years developing practical resources to help leaders stay organized, streamline badge progress, and maximize uniform space. Since January 2018, she has been blogging and sharing insights on GS Leader Resources, a site with tools, guides, and expert tips for scouting volunteers.

Tracking Badges with Precision – The Badgez System

One of Emilee’s most well-known contributions is her Badgez tracking system, an Excel-based tool designed to help leaders manage badge progress for up to 12 girls per level. With a built-in troop-level tracker that autofills completions, leaders can seamlessly update records as their scouts earn new badges.

For those who prefer pen and paper, she also offers PDF versions of individual girl checklists and troop-level tracking sheets. Her checklists have become an essential resource for scouting leaders, ensuring that troops stay organized. They get updated as new badges are released each summer.

Emilee’s collaboration with Audra Edmunds and the Girl Scout TRAX spreadsheets further strengthens the accuracy and accessibility of badge tracking, allowing leaders to follow progress in the official Facebook group dedicated to updates.

Maximizing Uniform Space – A Practical Approach to Badge Placement

Scouting vests and sashes are meant to tell a story. It showcases a scout’s achievements, journeys, and leadership experience. However, finding space to fit every earned badge can be a challenge, especially for high-achieving scouts.

Emilee tackled this issue by creating unofficial badge placement guides, providing scaled, photo-based layouts for every current badge available as of July 2018. Unlike GSUSA’s official placement guides, which rely on clipart and lack scaling, Emilee’s visuals offer a realistic way for scouts and leaders to strategize their badge placement.

Her guides feature various layout options for each uniform level, Daisy through Ambassador. Troops earning high volumes of badges can optimize their vests without sacrificing organization or aesthetics.

GS Leader Resources – A Hub for Scouting Knowledge

Beyond badge tracking and uniform guides, Emilee’s GS Leader Resources blog offers a wealth of tools for troop leaders. With advice on multi-level scouting and more, her blog has become a great help for leaders seeking practical solutions.

Her commitment to helping scouts and volunteers navigate the complexities of scouting has made GS Leader Resources an invaluable asset in the Girl Scout community. Whether through organizational tools, placement guides, or insightful blog posts, Emilee continues to simplify the process for leaders so they can focus on what matters most—empowering their scouts.

Through her passion, innovation, and dedication, Emilee Rea has become a trusted resource for scouting volunteers nationwide. Her contributions to badge tracking, uniform placement, and troop organization have transformed the way leaders manage scouting logistics, making it easier, more efficient, and visually clear.
