2024 Novelist NaNoWriMo – Day 26

November 26th

Yahoo! Page 20.

If you aren’t at page 20, don’t panic!

Really – don’t panic!

It was worth saying twice. There’s a simple trick for those of you that tried but aren’t quite at 20 – if you typed it in a document file.

Are you at least past page 10? Maybe you’ll say it isn’t fair we didn’t tell you this earlier, but what spacing did you use? Take a look and change the paragraph space to double space. There should be a line of space between each line of text. That way, when you print it out, people who review it have room to write little edits or notes.

10 pages will become 20, and for the GSUSA Senior Novelist badge – it does count. No shame when you have tried your best.

So why didn’t we say that at the beginning? Because a real author just writes. We wanted you to try your best to get 20 pages but not despair if you didn’t quite make it. You’ve worked hard – keep it up and you can become an author. Some take years to write their first novel, but you now have a really good start. If you’ve enjoyed it at all, please continue to write.

And for those that reached 20 page before doing the trick – Great job for doing the true challenge. Watch as your 20 pages become a possible 40. Some of your pages might be a half page scene – and that’s okay too, but doing double space won’t always double your pages. You still need to give room for those that you want to read and give you feedback, so double it up and get it ready for reviewing!

Finish!

Page 20 complete! Go to Day 27.

Want an Example?

With all the crazy schedule, we worked hard to catch up, but we only had 15 pages. When we did the trick, it only became 24. When we changed scenes, we put in a page break so some pages we counted weren’t full of text.
