2024 Novelist NaNoWriMo – Day 19

November 19th

Page 13, a baker’s dozen.

Baker’s dozens is a reminder of pastries and snacks. Better get a snack break soon…

Do you take breaks during your writing or wait until you are done? Do you do long or short writing sessions?

There are three typical ways to schedule writing in:

  • Regular writing sessions – It can be 15, 30, 60, or even 120 minutes long. But it’s a regular time period you write every day, or 5 days a week, or Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
  • Short Writing Sprints – You plan to write just 5-10 minutes at a time, several times during the day. You don’t think you can write much in just 5 minutes, but if you do it, you’ll be surprised how much it adds up at the end of the day.
  • Writing Marathons – You block out 4-10 hours of a day to get all the writing you want done that week so you don’t think about it until the next marathon day. Make sure to take breaks when you do this method!

Finish!

Page 13 is ready. Go on to Day 20.

Want an Example?

We like the regular writing sessions and are not good with long marathon writing. The short writing session methods can work in a pinch, but isn’t usually the most effective. We need our breaks, but need a good chunk of time to get into it too!
