2024 Novelist NaNoWriMo – Day 18

November 18th

Page 12 complete? Of course!

By page 12 most writers have completed around two scenes – how far have you gotten?

Remember the mini-goals you made at the beginning of the month? Don’t forget those are flexible.

As you write, you might need to stop to research something. You might need to create a new character. A scene you had clearly in your mind goes great, but the one after that just isn’t there. A scene you wrote might have had some new form of magic or new group/guild/organization show up and you have to stop a bit to think up the background, or logistics of how it works with the rest of your already created world.

It’s okay. As long as you are still taking that time out of each day to write, even if you have to do some more world building, character building, organization, research – it all is part of the writing process.

Finish!

Page 12 is complete. Go on to Day 19.

Want an Example?

Our world is a desert and we imagined it to be like Arizona with cliffs and rocks as well as the desert plains. We did a lot of random research into things like what crops grow in Arizona, what animals are natural to Arizona, and what do people do for cooling off in Arizona.
